Although the Sun has no essential dignity here, this is a good combination for scholarship. This is because the Sun is representative of Nous otherwise known as the realm of the forms, which is conducive to the understanding of ideas. The Sun's lack of dignity indicates that it has no support for its focus on grand ideas and selfish pride. Instead Mercury has control over the Sun which is symbolic of Mercury trying to improve the Sun's habits, analyzing how it expresses itself, etc... For this reason it is common for these natives to be involved in self improvement. For the same reason, they tend to deferr personal concerns for the sake of others.
In a diurnal chart, the heat and dryness of the day creates an excess of dryness leading to ease in making of distinctions. The will and the mind focus on analysis of details and taking care of daily concerns. There may be a tendency to excessive worry and nervousness due to too much attention to detail. They may be more control oriented and tend to take better care of their environment.
In a nocturnal chart, the cool and moistness of night inhibit the tendency to make fine distinctions. Thought processes become more relational and wholistic and may be more chaotic. As a result of a more laid back attitude, there may be a tendency to become disorganized, but they are less prone to worry and nervous stress. They tend to see the forest for the trees better than their diurnal counterparts.
